MODEL OF LANGUAGE FUNCTION
In 1950 Roman Jakobson introduced a theory that considers the way that spoken
language is put to use in human communication.
PARADIGMATIC SEMIOTIC
ANALYSIS
Paradigmatic analysis deconstructs a syntagm into its constituent paradigm,
studies the individual paradigmatic signs, and seeks to reconstruct the
process by which the syntagm takes on meaning.
SYNTAGMATIC SEMIOTIC
ANALYSIS
This lesson uses Propp's Morphology of Folk Tales to demonstrate the technique
of syntagmatic semiotic analysis.
