women in certain ways, including in the performance of the kinds of tasks which are usually known as "men's work."
Thus, in a society that is under the influence of Patriarchy, if a man and a woman apply for the same job, and if the job is considered as "man's work," then the answer is obvious - the man is superior by definition, and so he is the one who should be hired.
This defines the way women approach employment because, knowing that they will never be hired, they no longer apply for this kind of job. It also constrains the social reality of men because it deprives them of interaction with women in the environment of the work place.
