NARRATIVE [HFCL TUTORIAL]
The organization of a story. Narrative usually includes the characters of the story, the events in which they engage, and the sequence that ties them together.
The following is an example of a narrative
analysis using Propp's Morphology.
NATIONAL COMMUNICATION ASSOCIATION
The National Communication Association is "a not-for-profit organization with a mission to promote study, criticism, research, teaching, and application of the artistic, humanistic, and scientific principles of communication."

NEW MEDIA
A loose term that seems to refer to communication media in the post-modern era. Most computer based media are covered by the term; television may or may not be covered; radio generally is not. Any computer based medium that contains an older medium as its content is likely to be considered a new medium (for example, internet radio would be considered New).

NOISE
In the Shannon/Weaver model the term refers to interference with the signal sent by the transmitter. Noise may erase the signal, distort it or modify it. [Diagram of the model]
In the S/W model noise is generally assumed to be random. In general use, however, the term often refers to any undesired signal, intended or not.
