Typically identified as a variety of mass communication, traditional public relations refers to the formal messages originated by an organization and distributed for the purpose of shaping public opinion.

More recently, Public Information, or Corporate Communication is coming to refer to the totality of communication tasks required of the organization. this may include such as advertising, fund raising, meeting planning, technical writing, networked communications management, and so on.
